I used to be in r/lonely and similar subs on reddit but I’ve been shadowbanned for no good reason.
Where can I find some people here to talk with me when things get rough?

Honestly I use discord for this because of the more immediate responses when I’m feeling lonely. I’m in a couple of medium-sized communities that have members around the world so there’s pretty much always someone on.
Well, it depends. Often I see people ask for this who want to take but not give, which can get you banned in the best case and destroys a community in the worst case.
Loneliness often comes from particular experiences like not being able to share good things or rant about bad things.
But that is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is missing connection. There are possible neurological reasons for connections deteriorating (i would know) but if one makes themselves aware of this, they can try to counter this.
If you want to be listened to, related to, helped and understood, you need to do that for others. The rest will mostly come on its own. If that does not come naturally (again, i would know) you have to make an effort to do it.
After that is clear, I would suggest chat groups, not forums as forums are much more loose and dont allow for a deep connection imo. Depending on your personal identity, you can find chats which takes a thing you all share and makes it a topic to connect about. I suppose participating for a month will get you decent connections to share outside experiences with. Again, it needs to be mutual to work.

Thanks for your insightful comment. Yes, there are probably some better places to talk. I have been considering psychology recently to help with my problems.
However, sometimes at ungodly hours in the morning, I just need someone to talk to who is there and awake. I was hoping to find a community here for that while reddit has me shadowbanned.
First of all, good idea to get help on tackling issues. Second, i still think you might benefit much more from a chat than a forum. A safe space where your opnion does not need to be “well rounded” to be engaged in a respectful manner will do much more good than a public thread. Again, in my opinon.

Whole platforms to be honest. Since you’re already out of corpo land, lets keep you out. Matrix is the best I can think of since it combines a lot of positives. I dont know other decentralized group chats except maybe IRC. You can download apps for matrix on matrix.org, apps for irc you will find on your favorite search engine or if youre a linux user, the software store. Mobile phones and tablets of course have them too.
Then you check for your topics. Mental health, specific neurological things, interests, etc. Go from there.
Most comms are focused on a subject, I’m not aware of any /c/lonely/.
I know that beehaw has a comm for random chat, but you can’t reach [email protected] from lemmy.world.lemmy.one also has one it seems

An option for you is to move to an instance that isn’t defederated with beehaw, f.e. sopuli.xyz.
Nah. I would rather us all be together. I’m the janitor of 3d printing here. I’ve tried other accounts and have several, but I only use a mobile browser and like Alexandrite most. LW is well managed for the most part and stable. I’ve been here since the LW server was 3 weeks old and had less than 2k users.
Ah, I just use the default lemmy webui, if you’ve fallen for an alternative then I understand moving is hard. :)
I don’t feel apart because I use another instance though, just that I strengthen the resilience of lemmy by using a smaller instance.

Really, someone should create more mod granularity too, like mod view and user views should have different settings for blocking and voting views by default.
I just generally prefer to use the browser for battery life and minimalism. I have never had the patience to get past page 3 of the default pager view, while doom scroll keeps me around for better or worse.

Discord. I mostly post in an Ultima 7 modding community and helped out a bit but we also just talk about video games and stuff.
It’s hard to find the smaller servers where you can actually have a decent discussion though, just like IRC back in the day.
