      Fuuuucking this.

It’s Grand Theft Auto; Special Forces.

I wish they didn’t absolutely butcher the sequel. It feels fucking awful compared to Wildlands.

Same. I put in like 3 hours into Breakpoint and I was like 'where’s literally all the flavor gone from this game? So glad I waited until it was like a 5 dollar steam sale. Even then I tried to refund it but was past the ‘trial’ period.

And it’s on sale for 10$ on steam rn, damn. It’s missing the multi-player tag, otherwise I would have had it on my wishlist for co-op 3rd person shooters sooner :<

Hasn’t someone already suggested L4D2? I only played the first and was pretty offended when they promptly released the second and expected me to pay for it. They did eventually turn around and give it away but IIRC it was under a year from release and they expected me to buy a whole other game.

I swear, the best way to experience Helldivers 2’s community is to just be decent in games with randoms, maybe watch CommissarKai’s videos (do not go into the comments section) for tips on teamplay, and absolutely positively do not venture into the steam forums, the discord, or any other big discussion forum centered around the game because it w i l l be a cesspit, unfortunately. The Steam forums have the usual toxic trolls, but the Discord (and other hubs) is usually having furious arguments over buffs, nerfs, what is meta, what isn’t, what should be done what shouldn’t be and so on. For a silly little PvE co-op power fantasy game.

I’m not sure if Deep Rock Galactic has this problem, I’ve played it and it all seemed pretty positive but I never got into the game as much as I did HD2.

Halo. Not a hidden gem, but locked to xbox for a long time. (At least, co-op was.)

Best way to play is probably local co-op, but I imagine online is good too. Local co-op is only available on console sadly. Mysteriously.

    check out:

    Ink Inside On steam.

It’s a couch co-op action RPG with ranged combat meets beat em up fights. Aesthetic is 2014 cartoon network, with a story based on a lost Nickelodeon pilot. Voice cast is solid with Brian David Gilbert too.

If it sounds interesting, could definitley be up your alley!

Synthetik. Insane coop shooter that has the most dopamine inducing gameplay I’ve ever experienced.

Out of all the games here, this one is the absolute hidden gem. Because nobody has heard about it. But they absolutely should.

Earth Defence Force. Basically, you are participating in a B-movie scenario, with UFOs, kaiju, giant ants, flamethrower clams, and winged frogs. It is quite a good time, and the higher difficulties require genuine skill and cooperation.

EDF 6 is the best in the series from a gameplay standpoint, but is far weaker than 4 or 5 when it comes to the level design + narrative. Still, the QOL pushes the game to the next level, especially if you got pals to tackle the missions. There many different weapons, not just in power, but also shot pattern, reload style, knockback, and so forth. Also, there WILL be hundreds of enemies on onscreen at any given moment. Each of the four classes have very distinct characteristics when it comes to loadout, mobility, and purpose, so you should be able to find a good match for yourself.

I’m not really sure EDF 6 is the best entry point to the series, as it’s a direct sequel to EDF 5. I think it will get really confusing story- and missionwise, more so than it already is. EDF 5 was a soft reboot and is also a bit cheaper.

My friends and I really liked the WORLD BROTHERS 2 spinoff too, if someone is looking to play with a young player that might be a better starting point than the mainline games. The rest of the series spinoffs have not really done it for us.

I always loved ARC - Attack, Retrieve, Capture - originally from Hoopy Entertainment and then PopCap. You joined an ad hoc team and piloted a little flying saucer around a maze, shooting at the other team’s saucers. It was super simple to learn and wonderfully addictive. Probably not around anymore. I knew the two guys who created it.

Remnant: From the Ashes gets my vote. It’s a superb co-op shooter despite getting somewhat repetitive near the end. There’s also a sequel that seems to be well liked but I never got around to playing it.

Can you elaborate? Specifically because almost all of the negative Steam reviews, of which there are many, say more or less the opposite - that it tries to do that, but fails to capture what made Remnant so good.

(Not to criticize your opinion, to be clear; it’s on sale and I was strongly considering it as someone who likes Remnant. Sell it for me?)

Are you sure it’s all negative? Because on my steam the base game is “Mostly positive”. The DLCs are “Mixed” and outside of the The awakened king I can’t say much about the DLCs.

As for my short review. I’m not sure what those people think Remnant 1 was about but for me it was unique worlds, unique builds and unique enemies. Those things together give you an unique gameplay experience and Remnant 2 expands on all of those things.

The aesthetic was excellent in Remnant and Remnant 2 continues that by making those worlds even more detailed. There were multiple times where I just looked in awe at what the artists had concocted together. The only time where I felt the artistic vision wearing thin was literally the end of the game. I have vivid memories of all the worlds that are available in adventure mode, the final area ended up being unremarkable compared to everything that had come before it.

The builds in Remnant were pretty unique but I personally felt like the game didn’t give you enough tools early game to mid game to really build something out. You had guns, armor, trinkets, traits and mods but it all felt kinda constrained. Remnant 2 expands that by additionally giving you class archetypes, weapon mutators and you can modify the relic (the heart thingy that heals you in Remnant 1) and add relic fragments. All all those things individually are also expanded. Compared to the first game you’re going to get more guns, more armors, more rings, more amulets, just more of everything necessary to make a build.

The enemies in Remnant were great, an excellent mix of small enemies, minibosses and big bosses. Remnant 2 expands all of them with an even greater mix of small enemies, minibosses and big bosses. I’m not going to spoil any bosses but I definitely found them fun and memorable. The final boss is the only exception that comes to mind as I remember that being a frustrating fight.

The only objectively negative thing I can say about Remnant 2 was the performance. I don’t know if they’ve released some patches for it, but when I played around the launch of the awakened king it was borderline unplayable without upscaling.

I didn’t say that the overall review is ‘mostly negative’, to be clear; I said that almost all of the (many) negative reviews that exist seem to be talking about the failure to live up to remnant 1.

Thanks for the detailed review; it’s helpful to have a nice comparison between the two. I did enjoy Remnant 1 quite a bit. Would you say the DLC you played is worth buying even considering the generally mixed reviews?

Just to chime in, I’m in agreement with goodeye8. I liked R1 but R2 is fleshed out a lot more. Its a lot more fun and engaging.

I found that in R2 I played and replayed every area to get the variations and fight different bosses or defeat them in diffdrent manners I didnt do everything 100% but I did most of everything. In R1 I think I only went back to defeat one boss in an alternate manner. I know that’s not really a measurable way to give feedback, but it’s my anecdotal way of saying its a better game.

It’s pretty much just an expansion to the first world and expanded the lore of that world. I thought the first world was also the most interesting so I definitely enjoyed it. I didn’t try out the new archetype but it looked interesting. I think it’s definitely worth picking up on sale.
