I thought it was very entertaining but also horrifyingly parallel, I know that’s the point, but god, it felt wrong to laugh at times. I do recommend it, though.
Unpopular opinion. I liked Mickey 17. It’s a problematic movie mostly because the premise brings with it all these expectations about what the movie “should” be. The movie absolutely breaks all of those expectations with its almost slapstick comedic satire. Also Ruffalo does one hell of a great impersonation.
I want to see the movie, not because of the movie itself, but because of how split the reviews are. I only heard how absolutely bad it was, but in the first post about it here that i saw, everyone seemed to really like it. I don’t think it’s for me, just because uf ruffalo, but i’m still curious
I’d say go see it. We loved it. I think it’s probably partly that some people might not catch the tone of the movie, especially Mark Ruffalos character being a parody of several people at once.
Just watch it without any reviews or prior knowledge and enjoy it for what it is.
Will do, thanks
I would not be surprised at all if a large portion of the negative reviews are from right wingers who took offence to the Ruffalo character.
I’m not a right winger at all, i just don’t think ruffalo is a very good actor. What’s the rightwinger problem with the movie?
You’ll realise pretty quickly if you watch the film. Ruffalo’s character definitely makes some unflattering allusions to a certain US political figure, and many people are very easily triggered these days by any form of political satire.
I enjoyed it too. I wasn’t expecting hard sci-fi, just something along the lines of Avenue 5. For dark sci-fi comedy I give it a 6.5/10.
That’s why I liked it.
In several places it looked like I knew where it was going, then suddenly it surprised me with a different direction.
Granted, I saw a weekday matinee, but there were only 3 other people in my IMAX theater. This has been the case with every movie I’ve seen in recent memory. I can’t remember the last time I had someone sitting next to me in a full theater. Barbie was half-full. Maybe 2021 when theaters reopened?
We go to movies pretty regularly, often on opening nights (Thursdays) and they’ve been packed ever since restrictions were lifted.
Yeah, I’d expect it on opening night (I go later). But the drop-off for many movies these days is huge.
I don’t care what they say, this movie was good for me.
