Who would have thought an emerald mine heir from apartheid South Africa might be a Nazi fascist?
I appreciate that the author both adds texture/nuance AND firmly denounces him. I like the depth to that.
Thats not what he says at all in the post
Fun fact about Nazis: when you court them, then the distinction between you and them becomes meaningless, or at best academic. Which was what was said in the post.
I’m curious if this author can point to a specific time when musk became radicalized or if he was always this way.
I cringe when i remember being a musk fan. When he was the underdog I rooted for him. I believed in electric cars and reusable rockets. He came off like an awkward engineer type who was chasing a fantasy.
My first real wake up call was when he slandered that diver.
Was he always just acting or did he slowly lose his mind? If he was acting he did a good job or I was an idiot I’m not sure.
Probably not, it’s pretty clear that he’s always been this way and as he increases his wealth and ability to platform himself, he does things with increasing severity. Power for powers sake, but he used to have not that much power.
To give an indirect answer to your question… For many years I saw mainstream media and tech authors romanticizing Musk but nothing he did actually made an impression on me as positive or negative. It felt like people wanted a hero, a modern day Steve Jobs, and they decided that Musk was their man. They didn’t seem to care whether their worship was justified, for years, even when the bad news started rolling in.
That’s my somewhat distant perspective. No doubt people who were paying closer attention have a different take on the issue.
Very interesting post and it makes a lot of sense given the behavior we’ve seen from Musk. I think the author makes a bit too much of a distinction between Elon’s beliefs and actions but he does later acknowledge that this distinction matters little for many of us.
I am curious what is known about the relationship between these two. Were they actually close, and did they have some kind of falling out over anything besides Musk’s despotic behavior? Don’t want to just trust a single account at face value without evidence but as I said it does make a lot of sense.
It literally says what they had a falling out over. Did you read any of it???
Yeah I was just curious if there’s any information from another source. This person obviously wants to write a narrative that makes them look like a principled former close friend of Musk who simply couldn’t take any more. And that’s what they wrote, but they can write anything they want and it may or may not be true.
I imagine musk being fired for cause from NV and unable to exercise his options as a result and the fact that Musk, the richest person on earth with the legal access that provides, hasn’t hasn’t done shit about it for 3 years speaks volumes I’d say.
Edit. Oh, and defamation laws…
Something like, if you try to fight this, it’ll all come out in court and you’ll probably land in jail, rock solid case.
Musk is terminally online owning X.
I mean, it’s a good post but it’s not like it’s some kind of deep revelation. The explanation of who he is and why he’s doing these things is pretty obvious, I think. You don’t get to be the richest man on the planet without being a manipulative, narcissistic dick head moron.
