  • You’re not looking. “Now This!” and Cspan are two great YouTube channels for democratic media coverage. Dems are constantly calling Republicans out on stuff. Cspan is extra cool because they post full, unedited hearings so you get to see dems actually try to govern while the alt-righters behave like children, yell, and posture for their 30 second media clips, then sit back down and stare at their phone until it’s time to talk again.

  • IMHO, Democrats have gotten much better with their messaging over the past decade. People just don’t pay attention because diligently solving problems with substantial plans that take years to show effects isn’t sexy or exciting.

I stay pretty keyed in to what’s going on in congress, but I have to put effort into that. It seems like all the algorithms constantly want to shift my content to paying attention to all the crazy shit the GOP is up to and I’m constantly catching and stopping myself from getting sucked into rage porn.

  • My very christian mom used to always tell me that I’m gay and athiest because it’s popular, but that she believed I’m actually a closeted christian. In her opinion, I chose the way I am because christians are so persecuted in the US… Nevermind that I’m autistic, highly introverted, and have never cared about popularity or pop culture in general. I’ve been out to my parents for over a decade and she’s only recently started to come around on it because I have a fiance now, and she sees how happy he makes me. :)

Christians are fucking wild with the BS they’re willing to believe, so long as their pastor can make them chuckle and tear up a little bit inside of a 40 min speech.

  • Why do you believe giving the extractors/tyrants free reign will lead to real change? What if it follows the same trend of the last 50 years of things just getting worse and worse, while a large chunk of our populace implicitly accepts the normalization of it?

As a person currently living in extreme poverty, I can’t afford to fight in a revolution. I don’t have a vehicle I would feel comfortable driving long distances, I have zero food security, and I rely on consistent access to medications I need to stay alive. I suspect these are realities people that want some sort of revolution are ignoring. A lot of people, possibly myself included, could die from secondary effects if we go that route. Personally, I would like to avoid a full on revolution as much as possible.

  • Well… The surgeon wasn’t very good… He made multiple mistakes, that I’m aware of, and my issue is coming back a little over a year after the surgery… Now with staph infections because he used non-degradable sutures on the inside and they’re coming out! And I still haven’t financially recovered from the last round… Yay America!

Sorry, I’m not trying to unload on you. Really just venting to the void. No need to respond to this one haha.

Thank you for reading and sympathizing.

  • Same! I’ve dealt with several major health issues and been burned so many times. I spent almost a full year bed ridden, waiting for a surgery that was deemed “elective” when I could barely walk, and was in 10/10 pain while on the max amount of pain killers, and fighting with insurance every step of the way to have them cover things my plan covered. All the while, bleeding thousands of dollars to get all kinds of tests done, sometimes multiple times for the same test, and at an already significant financial strain due to being mostly bedridden… Anyone that tells me the healthcare system in this country is OK gets a 20 minute lecture, minimum.

Anyways, I found a seemingly legitimate primary care physician the other day. He was available, on time, knowledgeable, his staff could answer questions, and knew how to read blood pressure correctly. I was astonished. I’m still waiting to find out how his office is too good to be true but, in the mean time… 🤞

  • This happened to an old co-worker of mine. His wife was deported after they had been married for awhile and had a kid. It took them something like 6 or 7 years, and tens of thousands of dollars, to get her back to the US, and she almost died in the process. The cartel found out her husband was American and mugged her on her walk home from work. They stabbed her in the neck, barely missing her carotid artery. Their story is crazy af, and still breaks my heart for them, when I think about. Dude, lost out on most of his first daughter’s early childhood and almost lost it all because the US thinks it’s necessary to punish people that were brought here as children. So stupid.

Thankfully, they’re all in the US now and, last I heard, they had another kid and are doing great. :)
