From the article and some quick poking around, I don’t think Apple producing very much, if anything, in Mexico.

Last August there was some rumbling of Foxconn standing up some capacity in Mexico for Apple due to the not-a-trade-war that’s been simmering between the US and China. It seems like Apple might be thinking about building these plant(s) in the US instead.

Hopefully this ends better than Foxconn’s last foray into the US.

I don’t think the US will invade Canada for access to its farmland. The US presently has about 5x the amount of arable land as Canada. One could certainly say this land is poorly located, but the US is geography pretty large and production can move. It’s not like that hasn’t happened in the past. One example is the transition from Maine potatoes to Idaho potatoes.

Canada does have 5% more land than the US, but give how little land is farmed in either country, I don’t think this will matter a ton.

I started buying games after buying myself an OG play station. Even back then, I remember $40 and even $50 MSRP game prices. Their greatest hits line was discounted to $20. Final Fantasy 7, which remains an all time favorite of mine, was $50 at launch.

This probably isn’t a popular option, but a lot of the recent hate on Microsoft have been standard practice for Apple for a long time.

Windows 10 free update length? 10 years. Mac? 5-7 years.

Baked in cloud backup? Yeah, Apple has been doing that for a while and a lot of things go to the cloud by default. If you have an iPhone or iPad, things you download go to iCloud by default.

It seems like Microsoft is trying to follow Apple’s model.

I do get not wanting to support windows 10 anymore. The CPU limitations on Win 11 are very dumb, but it’s something Apple has been doing for decades. I will be installing mint on my old desktop.

I give them less grace with OneDrive. That rollout has been very naggy and shitty.

As a recent modern Mac user, this experience is so bizarre and is always a little different.

I grew up on macs (thanks mom) and built a PC as soon as I had my first real job in highschool. I recently bought a MacBook for the promise of battery life and cool running. If only it was easier to get my arm windows laptop to boot Linux…

I think many assume there’s more of a plan, or at least more structure, than there actually is. When you pick at it, or pull the single link keeping it all together, it tumbles down.

Genuine question: do they make money from AOSP being used on third party devices? Obviously they get revenue via the Play store, but you can avoid that by either installing something like graphine or an alternative store (Fdroid, Amazon, etc).

This is the same way they measure the time duration you need to hold poultry at 165°F for.

Here’s a fun thought experiment: egg whites collegiate (ie are considered cooked) at 150° F. To reach 7.0 log10 levels of salmonella killing you would have to either have to hold your eggs at this temperature for 72 seconds or cook them to a higher temperature and hold them there less long. I don’t know about you, but I like over easy eggs. The center of the yolk gets no where near 150.
