Eldritch@piefed.worldto memes@lemmy.world•Then they will ask why nobody wants to use their payment cardsEnglish19·14 hours agoNot even that. It was because a disingenuous psychopath raised a big stink to the payment processors that Steam and itch rely on. As long as they want to process payments they unfortunately need the companies and have to appease them. The best thing we could do is raise a bigger opposite stink.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto Goth❌Industrial@lemmy.world•Crucifix Of Light, by FHE featuring Shauny P & G Tom MacEnglish2·19 hours agoYou absolutely have. Gerard McMahon’s work as a whole may not be specific to any related generas. But cry little sister is iconic for many reasons. From the gothic feel to the fact that it was attached to a very popular vampire horror film. I’ve had it requested many times DJing.
Synthwave isn’t necessarily a problem. Carpenter Brut often has used lovecraftian and horror themes leading to dark, atmospheric and brooding tracks that would fit in any darkwave set. Same for Occams Lazer . We are Magonia has done a lot of straight up gothic mixed with dubstep and metal many times. Though this with the sax reminds me of gunship . Not the most gothy hehe. But they did do a colab with HEALTH . Which often is keyed in to gothic vibes. Their most recent track featured John Carpenter, and the video is a straight up send up of the early 90’s. Darksynth definitely has it;s place here.

Hah, Gilliam and time bandits. Up voted. So true.
Yeah. It’s like, what if the misfits were nerdier and fixated on cthulu.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Is there a alternative platform to roblox for players and gamedevs?English3·2 days agoSeconded
Yep, luanti can do *Minecraft. And much much more. Luanti has the potential to become a platform more like roblox.
I will reveal to you an arcane forbidden technique. Hold your hand in front of your face. Though check first to see if there is anyone mischievous about. Palm towards you, fingers pressed together. Close to your face, preferably less than 5cm or so away. Then wave your hand as fast as you can while cursing.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Some people think that proprietary software for a 3d printer is a plus?English3·2 days agoYou aren’t disagreeing with anything I said. It’s all very asterisk-y. And if my personal preference/position is unclear. I run non proprietary *nix systems at a 7:1 ratio to proprietary. Precisely because of the better support. Come October that ratio is going to be getting even more lopsided.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Some people think that proprietary software for a 3d printer is a plus?English4·2 days agoOh absolutely. You’re preaching to the choir here. Part of the reason I have a lot of hope around riscv. The processor designs themselves aren’t necessarily open source. But with the ISA being open and open source the first to embrace. It “could” foster a new much less proprietary ecosystem.
College radio would have helped. Sadly here were the next state over from the closest. And just on the edge of it’s broadcast range.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto News@lemmy.world•What if AI made the world’s economic growth explode?English61·2 days agoThere are many that irrationally reflexively recoil at anything “AI”. Yes most of the current gatekeepers are looking to weaponize it against us. And yes they are rushing to implement it in the most wasteful and destructive ways imaginable. Chasing a few dollars more.
AI however is just a tool. And asics are being designed to be far more efficient for it. And we could also use it against the wealthy as well. But they aren’t behaving rationally. Even this post will likely be down voted. Because I didn’t irrationally scream and denounce it.
I will say this though. We don’t need economic growth. We need to remove leaches from the economy. If we did that. We could provide a better standard of living to more people with a smaller "economy ".
Eldritch@piefed.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Some people think that proprietary software for a 3d printer is a plus?English141·2 days agoProprietary “can” mean better support. But that’s asterisk heavy. Often that comes down to commercial hardware putting up road blocks to competitors. Or the open source solution being the product of a single developer in their spare time.
As others have said. Minecraft is the more known and established. Luanti is awesome though. It can do “Minecraft” and so much more. I’d say it really comes down to external factors.
Do your friends already play Minecraft. And if the don’t, are they going to have money to put towards it? In the end there’s nothing saying you can’t do both. I will say this though. Installing and running a dedicated server for Minecraft, bedrock at least. Was way harder than luanti. But if you aren’t planning on self hosting then you don’t have to worry about that.
They definitely do. Another fun one is the darkest of the hillside thickets. Also contenders for one of the longest band names you’ve ever heard. Perfect when you’re looking for music to fit a cthulian mood. With bangers like shogoths away, you fool Warren is dead, and who could forget the great molasses disaster.
Yes it offers unique user and moderator features on top of pretty much all the same features as Lemmy.
The choice of language they are using for it will be a hindrance and a help. Python is much more accessible for many programmers than rust. However it is not always as performant as rust. They may encounter bottlenecks with scaling and a few other things. Which can be alleviated by using a language that is specifically designed for those things. Then those code modules can be called by the rest of the python code no problem.
But as a much younger project piefed has already made massive strides and even stepped out ahead of lemmy. Lemmy had a 4 year head start. Combined with no clear moral qualms with the developers. It’s clear why many are excited for piefed.
