If there was no money in doing it, it wouldn’t have happened the way it did. Whether this money is from investors or from monetizing services doesn’t matter in the short term, only that somebody is willing to pay.

Whats the purpose of generative AI? Its not just to analyze, its to replicate and mass produce. We’re not talking about some software that is churning through medical data to figure out how to feed premature babies. Its that stupid AI web search answer that is just copy pasted from another website that may or may not have to source where it made its summary from. (usually from a hit that is on the first page of the search results that I’m going to click on anyways)

A person wanting to learn how to do something is different from an AI company wanting to feed its math problem more material to math all over.

Bill wants to learn how to fix a car because its useful to themself and others.

An AI company wanting its chatbot to be able to answer questions about fixing a car isn’t meant to help itself or others fix their car… its to increase the liklihood that investors will give the AI company more money.

They are not the same thing.

Capitalism in a state of crisis cranks up the dial on fascism. Shit is going to get really bad for a whole lot of people who don’t have the power to survive the violence of an unashamedly fascist state.

People being snatched up and disappeared to other countries, is a bad thing.

People being unable to get a job or healthcare due to being a member of one minority group or another is a bad thing.

Destroying the systems that try to keep our food and water safe(ish) to eat and drink is a bad thing.

Destroying universal vaccination programs and seeing outbreaks of diseases that were considered contained to the point of being erradicated is a bad thing.

There is not enough of a coherent “left” in the USA to be the vanguard that marshalls the workers you think are going to be comrades against Trump, Fascism, and ultimately Capitalism.

You’ve got the option of Reporting the post/comment to the moderators. Which will require you knowing the moderation rules of the community in question to take advantage of.

Short bullet point/talking point responses. Replies with things like, “This is racist/sexist/genocide denial/etc”, then disengage. You don’t need to get into a long drawn out comment war/debat bro situation.
