    Completely unprovoked

You either don’t know what’s been going on, or you do and don’t care. Either way, I don’t see the substance of interacting with you further.

Israel has nukes, has never signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty, won’t allow IAEA to monitor them, and repeatedly ignores a 1981 UN SC resolution on the matter.

Iran, horrible theocracy as it is, has signed the NPT and has been actually engaging with the international community, even though it is being ratfucked on every turn. Basically, they had a deal with the West, that was guaranteeing it would not develop nuclear weapons, that Israel’s biggest ally, the USA, just unilaterally cancelled a few years ago.

Weirdly enough, the actually horrible repressive theocracy has been behaving as a rational actor. And it is absolutely fair to say that it’s “misbehaving” in the nuclear issue is …our fault. We had a deal. We had every chance to normalize. We tore up the deal. And now our ally, that is completely unaccountable, has broken every bit of international law and is an entirely bad faith actor in the region, is attacking them.

I’m not cheering for the Iranian government. I’m more terrified for the lives of the brave progressive Iranian youths who stand up to the mullas and are now being bombed. But, my brother in Lemmy, the Iranian regime are not the crazies here.

      Oh we’re quoting the IAEA?

Speaking on the final day of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, Grossi warned that attacks on nuclear sites are in direct violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Agency’s Statute.

“I have repeatedly stated that nuclear facilities should not be targeted under any circumstances, as this could harm people and the environment. Such attacks have serious consequences for nuclear safety, security and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security,” Grossi stressed.

-Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Very nice point, it’s almost like the meme is pointing out neither state is “the good guy”, and nobody should be rooting for either of them.

I’m not allowed to be concerned with Israel fucking around with nuclear reactors and potentially creating a cherbobyl level meltdown illegally bombing them because Iran is a “bad guy”?

What is this “good guy” “bad guy” politics you’re talking about?

I’m not 3 you can use a bigger word.

I think the better way to analyze this situation is as “attacker” and “defender”.

Someone is starting a war, violating an international border, and instigating the first attacks. Who is it?

Up until two days ago, I thought it was pretty well established that Iran was an evil state that oppresses its citizens and funds terror groups. If tomorrow a bunch of people started talking about how green the sky is, you’d see a distinct uptick in how often I post about how the sky is blue.

Pointing out Iran is an evil state after people start acting like it isn’t is not an agenda. Spam replying my comments in multiple subthreads where you aren’t replied to kinda feels like a really weird one though. Note added.

this agreement is a farce. Look what happened to Ukraine the moment they signed their nuke rights away.

No, I actually mean that building nuclear weapons is a very clear provocation to your enemies. Previous kid was arguing that Israel started bombing Iran for no reason. Building nukes is a pretty compelling reason to bomb a country from a realpolitik standpoint.

My overall point is that both states are awful and deserve each other, and you shouldn’t cheer either of them on. There is no “good guy”. Anything else unclear?

By your logic you’d support bombing the United States and Israel out of existence, right? Or at least whoever did would be fully justified?

honestly-- does not Iran deserve to develop nuclear defense as russia, pakistan, israel, india, france and britain? MID european nations currently appreciate US defense/bases.

Israel has bombed Iran because MAYBE they COULD develop nukes. And hadn’t the orange turd broken the deal with Iran they wouldn’t try to build nukes.
