I just find this argument to be ridiculous. If you grew up with the bookes and movies and own them what harm are you doing by still enjoying those memories?
Because you are going to talk about them. You are going to let others borrow them. They may decide they want a copy of their owm. Or they may talk to others about it, and those people may decide to get copies of their own. Do you see how this works?

Enjoy the memories the books gave you, reread them if you still have the books if you want, but don’t buy more new stuff from that author.
Don’t buy tickets to the Harry Potter experience, don’t watch the new series or get the new game.
