I’ve never bought a commercial display, but I’ve heard of them as alternatives to smart TVs. I don’t know about the management software on this though. Additionally, I hard that some displays are really meant as signage, so they don’t display moving images well. It may require more research than buying a consumer TV.
Roku is enshitifying these days to. Forced ads on startup. I got one the other day. And it was double loud too. But it stopped after that. So it is just a matter of time before we have to find a roku replacement.
what precisely does “tap my USB C” mean? USB isn’t something that just permeates the air, and a charger can’t magically access the internet unless you specifically have powerline adapters installed (and even then good luck)
I mean, you have a point. Why would Google or LG have to subsidize the hardware to spy on you when you can just let your laptop or media dongle do it anytime you want to watch some Netflix.
This is the way.
I just want a TV to be a display that shows what I plug into it.
This type of device is called a “monitor”. Additionally, it provides a more precise image, without artificially added blur or whatnot.
Where can I get a 55 inch monitor thats not one of those weird ass ultrawide thingies?
Maybe something like this would do the trick. https://www.newegg.com/lg-55ur340c9ud-55/p/N82E16824026275

That’s nearly 1k for a 55. I paid 350 for my LG 4k.
Discounted because of all the bloatware they put on it…
I have no complaints. I don’t use ITS smart features tho. I gots myself a roku for my plex server. Haven’ seen the LG’s homescreen in years.

Be careful. I’ve heard tells / seen posts that seem to indicate there are now monitors that tap your USBC to get network, and display ads… 🫠

No idea. Try searching through the Internet.

Yoo I have one of those, it’s pretty cool
