Is there an equivalent to godwin’s law for Linux users? If you don’t have someone mention ditching windows you’ll never think to do it yourself

It’s a bit grating as it’s preaching to the choir here, but people mainly do not know you can replace the OS, or frankly what an OS is.

You really do have to evangelize for change to make this even occur to people.

I remember back in high school a gal was having computer trouble and when asked about it, she said her computer ran Microsoft office. Like yeah, people don’t really know what an os is.

To be fair, I was in the camp of “put a sock in it” until I reached a point of “alright FINE, I’ll give it a go” and now I’m joining the choir on it, desktop Linux is a dream.

Without Linux users advocating for Linux it would never reach the average consumer. We don’t have a marketing department we have to grassroots that shit.

They can overhaul it and resecure it all they want but it doesn’t matter because no one trusts them, because they’ve been giving you a plethora of reasons not to for decades. And it would take them decades to earn it back, if they actually tried.

“I’m actually really excited about how nerdy we got on the security architecture,” says David Weston, vice president of enterprise and OS security at Microsoft

…I mean it actually sounds quite good? That’s probably better secured than your password manager which has a very similar risk profile.

… It should have been built like that from the start though! And this relies on Microsoft never watering it down so they can skim user data off the top…

Microsoft requires a proof of presence through Windows Hello.

… which requires a hotmail account or something, right?

So no. The only interaction I’ll have with this is coding cinc.sh to remove it.
