Data from hotel site Trivago shows fewer US bookings by holidaymakers from Canada, Japan, Mexico and Germany

Holidaymakers in countries hit the hardest by Donald Trump’s trade tariffs are taking the US off their list for trips abroad, according to online travel booking data.

Findings from the hotel search site Trivago also suggest that UK and US travellers are increasingly choosing domestic holidays amid concerns over an uncertain economy.

The company has seen double-digit percentage declines in bookings to the US from travellers based in Japan, Canada and Mexico. The latter two countries were the first on Trump’s tariff hitlist when he announced tariffs of 25% on 1 February.

Canadians in particular were incensed at Trump’s repeated suggestions that its northern neighbour would be better off annexed as the 51st state of the US.

    I’m so sick of this.

    the Tariffs are only a secondary reason why foreigners and tourists are staying the fuck away. its the Internal nightmare, Geopolitical policy and commentary thats pissed people off

    • its the whitewashing of genocide and blank cheque attitude toward Israel after it went way too far.
    • its the whitewashing of genocide and devils advocacy of Russia as it is de-facto at war with America and its Allies now.
    • its the constant comments of Invasion of Panama, Greenland, Mexico and Canada, and the utter disrespect / jingoism in it.
    • its the constant demonizing of Americas military allies in the face of the most turbulent period since the cold war.
    • its the inhuman treatment of its own people, and the administration basically saying “get mad, fuck you gonna do about it?”
    • its the plainclothes gestapo prowling the streets of its own country looking for people who are deemed too mexican to be allowed.
    • its the hostile treatment of tourists to begin with, laughably suggesting torists who come from europe, australia, etc, places that are fundementally better places to live. are actually coming to america to work illegally, and they end up in a cell for 3 weeks with no contact while the “investigation is pending”

    and so much more.

    Tariffs are an insult , but they’re not the reason foreigners are avoiding the country,

    its because America has become a bed of Pig Shit Fascists.

      100%. I’m an Australian, married to an American. Moved her here to Australia in 2015 and now she says she’ll never set foot in that country again, not even to visit her own family. Too much uncertainty that trump will throw a tantrum and she’ll get stuck there somehow.
