I doubt if Carney actually wants to be part of this thing. Tying defence to economics is his widely-acknowledged negotiating tactic, so he could have just been flattering Trump. I’ll believe we’re getting into this when our side publicly says so.
The “golden done” would not protect Canada. It would just keep out international support when the U.S. tries to invade. The answer needs to be no.
