Hot take, but Google giving up Chrome isn’t gonna fix the underlying issue of “whoever controls Chrome can basically unilaterally set web standards without anyone else’s say.”
As seen in the EU, even forcing people to pick a browser on initial setup still leads a large majority of people to just pick Chrome because it has the brand recognition. Outside of forcing people to sit through classes about what browser engines are and how a single company controlling the internet is bad, I don’t really know how you fix this.
