Seriously, what on earth is going on? They’re releasing a whole new laptop and have given the FL13 Ryzen AI options but there’s nothing new for the FL16. I’m hoping for a 2nd gen dGPU before I would get mine (or even a Zen 5 CPU, but I am OK with a Zen 4 as of now) but it seriously feels like there’s no progress on that front. The last thing they made for the FL16 was the Dual M.2 and that was in December. Will there be new parts for the FL16? When? If not, will there be another dGPU laptop offering?
it’s a small company and the fw16 is still up to date.
Wouldn’t call it up to date, but that’s fair. I just hoped they would focus more on things like the FL16 instead of making stuff like the FD (which has barely even launched and is already flopping).
In what way is it “already flopping”?
the fw16 is one generation behind which means absolutely nothing. the fd sold out 8 batches within hours of being announced. you seem to be implying the fd is a pointless device (if not, my bad for misinterpreting) but you are missing that the goal of framework is to make things that are better for consumers and more sustainable, meaning that with how big AI has gotten they need to provide something that makes it less harmful and allows it to be interacted with by people outside of big companies with agendas.
I don’t really see the point of the FD with how standard ATX Desktops exist, to be honest
the point is the specific chip, but one way or another it’s not flopping.
My guess is power. 240w on usb-c is a challenge for overall power budget, and they don’t even sell 240w power supplies yet, only 180w.
My personal gut speculation is they are still exploring possibilities to integrate the Ryzen Max with FW16s without compromising Memory upgradeability. Obviously that was not possible to achieve as easy as they hoped, so the Desktop came first. But I may be totally wrong.
The power is too low for a stationary workstation, the device is too large for a mobile workstation.
the device is too large for a mobile workstation
I’ve seen up to 19 inch laptops, so I don’t understand that.
Edge cases are not the norm.
Look at the last gen chips for the 13. It’s the 7000 series. They usually skip a generation, for whatever reason.
I don’t remember there being a generation between 7000 and HX 300.
Yeah there was a 8000 series.
Scroll down to “processor specifications” then over to 8000

Guess we’ll see then.
I’m pretty sure they mentioned it in the Q&A they did after the launch event. I didn’t remember exactly what they said though.
Building electronics can be a long process. The FW16 itself experienced many months of delays before it was finally released to preorder. Also, the 13" board that runs the same generation as the FW16 came out before the FW16.
As a FW16 owner, I’d love some news myself, but they did just add two whole new SKUs which is going to take up some component of R&D time. They may be working at a tick/tock cadence for updating small devices then coming back to the large device.
Yeah, I get that, but shouldn’t they have focused on making the existing products live up to their promise of upgradeability before releasing new SKUs?
