Just finished Castlevania: Nocturne (not bad) and am watching The Last of Us season 2.
I’m also watching DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, which has been such a very pleasant surprise for me and I never see anyone talking about it. I know next to nothing about DOTA, so I had zero investment in the world ahead of time. It feels like an R-rated Avatar: The Last Airbender, with similar pacing, episode runtime, and occasional silly bits. I’ve loved the voice cast (although ironically, my favorite character is mute), and it’s kinda bizarre but fun how many of the actors are Star Trek alumni.
Nearly at the end of White Lotus season 2. It’s been a good series so far, I’m not exactly sure why I enjoy it so much but it has me hooked.
I finished the new season of severance last night. It was pretty good. I’m interested to see where the next season goes.
On the last season of The Expanse right now.
Love The Expanse. If you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend the audiobooks. The narrator is fantastic and obviously there’s so much more detail
I don’t have the audiobooks, but I do have the e-books of the whole series. I read the first two and then half of the third book before I started watching the TV adaptation. Going to probably have to start over at the first book so I don’t get confused.
I’m still watching The Righteous Gemstones, and it’s still good. I’d rather not talk about it to prevent accidentally spoiling, but the short version is if you like previous Danny McBride projects this is right in line with them.
Going through season eight of modern family. Surprised how well the series had drawn on so far.
Recommended for the week: common side effects! Solid show, really good imo.
Finished True Detective season 1. Can’t recommend it enough, although I won’t watch the rest of the series as I feel there’s not much more the show can provide and their reputation is low. Starting The Wire now
Season 1 was a high water mark for TV in general, so anything that followed had an impossibly high bar to clear anyway. That said, I’d still say just skip season 2.
I thought season 3 was good, not great. It fits the themes well, but the talent and cast chemistry simply do not compare. Still worth a watch down the line, I think.
I’d recommend giving season 4 a go. It’s got a new show runner and Jodie Foster is amazingly good in it. And it’s creepy a fuck in a good tension building way. And it’s setting really notches up the whole thing.
Just finished the latest season of Invincible. Overall I enjoy it, even is sometimes the animation is meh. This season really did a good job of showing the tension between taking a principled moral stand vs practical realities. Sometimes you can be a good person, or you can save the world, but you can’t always have both
This month, the most popular TV drama should be PLAYING GO starring Wang Baoqiang. Although there are many similarities to Breaking Bad, this drama is indeed very popular.
Unlike the previous ones, season 3 of the wheel of time was quite awesome
