Gendered bathrooms should not need to exist because bathrooms should have some dammed privacy.

In the US, there’s a door for boys and one for girls. Behind each is a giant room with some sinks and some toilets that may as well be using cardboard and tinfoil for privacy.

Go somewhere more pleasant like Sweden? You have a short hallway with 3 or 4 doors on each side, and behind each is a small restroom including a sink and a mirror.

Every real and maga-hallucinated bathroom problem largely solved.

And if you wanna save money on too many sinks and such there is already a solution for that. Many places have the sink and mirror outside the bathroom and shared between both gendered bathrooms.

If you want to save time, money, and water, one of my favorite venues has toilets that have sinks on top of them so the water used to wash hands is collected in the tank as grey water to flush the toilet.

I love the idea behind gender neutral bathrooms, but I really wish they weren’t just a band-aid on the problem that is disgusting American bathrooms.

I didn’t realize how much better it could be until I went to Japan. Floor to ceiling walls, doors with curvature where the door and wall meet completely eliminating door gap, buttons to play music or water sounds…wtf America. Might as well be pissing in a prison in some bathrooms here.

I can see the video where someone with a microphone asks people on the street:

“More and more households in the US are implementing gender neutral bathrooms, what is your opinion on this?”

It drives me crazy to see a single occupancy bathroom in a public space labeled as gender neutral… Just say bathroom… Or even worse they went out of the way to change it from bathroom to gender neutral… Looking at you taco bell…

They should paint a door on a brick wall and label it “super male”. And have a sign saying “dorry you aren’t male enough”

I went to a board game convention a month ago, it was the first time I’ve girlmoded for something major. They put their own signs over the bathroom signs explaining that both were gender neutral and the only difference was urinals vs stalls. That made it soooo much easier on me and I was very glad

Indeed, I’m a furry and a few conventions I go to, even in red states, have temporary rebranding of the bathrooms to gender neutral for the duration of the convention as a requirement that the Hotel must maintain in order to keep the convention’s business.

And since furries are either suspiciously wealthy or poor, but dedicated, it’s a wise economic decision for said Hotel.

The fact that stalls exist kinda makes me question why, outside of poorly aged “values” we even have gendered restrooms.

I don’t know if it’s the reason, or just a side effect, but I’m pretty sure it prevents a bunch of sexual assault, or at least makes some people feel safer.

        This is the justification.

My only comment to that is: the “women’s washroom” sign isn’t going to stop an attacker.

            1. Trans people who don’t pass will also feel awkward walking in there, and many of them don’t. Often times, you’ll primarily just see people who pass going into the restroom matching their gender. Just the fact they identify as the gender doesn’t often mean even they are comfortable going in there, so it’s not like anyone presenting as masculine going into the women’s restroom is even a common occurrence in places where trans people are accepted
            2. Anyone who would be willing to visually change themselves to pass as the opposite gender doesn’t need “being trans” as a concept to do so, and could be just as willing to engage in that regardless.
            3. Gay people exist and they don’t feel awkward walking in to those spaces, yet could just as well engage in sexual assault of people matching their gender without anybody questioning their right to be there.

I feel like that’s the only justification I’ve ever really heard, but I find it to be rather flimsy. It assumes that someone willing to assault someone else would be deterred by a sign. It also assumes that assaults only happen across genders and not within, which is either very narrow-minded or willfully obstinate.

Personally, I would think individual unisex bathrooms that each contain their own sink would be the safest option. You enter fully aware and lock the door behind yourself, only leaving once you are fully aware and alert again. Given that the common area between stalls is essentially public, you could have cameras observing the entrance without invading privacy and capturing anyone attempting to force their way in or tailgate someone entering a stall. Better, safer, gender neutral.

My former college has gender neutral bathroom in the gym. I have never heard any issues in the many decades that it has been there. Besides, the wall of the toilet stalls are really high and there are no gaps underneath the stalls to dissuade peeping. Just do how my college did with gender neutral bathrooms.

Ya know I’ve actually sat down and talked with my cisfriends on how they feel about the whole thing, way way back when the bathroom scares started… One thing they brought up that I didn’t even think about was “Do these Republicans not know that lesbians exist?”

Do these Republicans not know that lesbians exist?

Of course they do, they were using the exact same talking points against (cis) gay people before that proved to be unviable at the time, and they’ll drag the culture war back to that front if they get what they want with regard to suppressing trans people’s rights to exist as members of society.

*nununununu!!!* please understand that I’m angry at the reddit post with the annoying youtube title, not the repost here on Lemmy. On thus post, “No” is a pretty good title I think. it’s not overselling it, it makes sense within the context of the funi and it’s not an overused buzzword.

the REDDIT POST on the other hand! it goes out of it’s way to be annoying. it repeats the the same meaning using different words. it pretends like this is a big thing: some employee replying with no to some comment about thir game. It’s boring, overblown and who cares. It would have been funier if the reddit person just reposted the post and didnot add a dum and long subtitle to it. WHAT IS THIS? prepare for my next game, named Calm Compass: A side adventure in a parallel dimebsion. (very out of context, yes, srryy)

have I now become the one to overblow and overreact? am I now saying the same thing with many words? YES! ON PURPOSE!

im sori next time I will ramble shorter.

Anders Holmvik is one of the three main characters in the show Workaholics.

The character is played by actor and co-creator of the show Anders Holm.

Vik or vig, in Scandinavian languages, means inlet or bay and is rather common as part of a placename. Therefore also somewhat common as a family name, since these tend to reflect origin of a given family.

I can recommend the show, it is funny, albeit rather stupid.
