In terms of pure numbers, yeah, there are plenty of MAGA out there to hire. But they need to be mentally and physically fit in order to join ICE and carry out these raids. I would be genuinely surprised if there were enough MAGA in this country who could pass the physical.
I could be wrong. But if I’m right they might try hiring literal mercenaries for this, or just embezzle the funds. Or buy stupid militarized vehicles like police departments like to do.
I read that it makes ICE bigger than the fucking Chinese army. It’s beyond obscene. One thing that I wonder about is… are there even enough racist sociopaths in this country to fill the ranks? You need a specific type of person to be willing to join ICE. It’s possible that there simply aren’t enough Americans who are willing to brutalize immigrants to use the $200 billion they were given.

Call of Duty sales suggest this isn’t happening.
I wasn’t suggesting we become violent yet, I was just answering your question. The population is definitely large enough for these protests and a violent revolution if it’s ever required.

Fair enough. I work weekends so I haven’t been able to attend any of these yet, and was surprised I can finally go to one. You seem to base your opinions on first hand experience.
Hmm. Yeah, maybe. It just seems too easy to ignore the weekend protests. Everyone who has power and money are elsewhere on Saturdays.
50 million? The population of the US is something like 340 million and there are more guns than people in this country.
They’re finally doing one on a weekday? Excellent. I like the concept of these protests but they seem so trivial when they involve people pretty much just hanging out with signs in front of empty government buildings. Having it on a weekday means disrupting business and work schedules. Don’t let them ignore you.
No, they need to be on weekdays. They need to disrupt business and be visible. Weekend protests in front of empty government buildings are worthless.
Edit: worthless was the wrong word. They’re not worthless, they just seem too easy to ignore for rich politicians who just go to one of their vacation homes every weekend. Or stay at home in their giant homes outside the city.

I doubt the demand for frisbees is high enough to be an encompassing solution for our plastic problem, but I like the idea.
ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Costco changed the bag to plastic!!3·8 days agoI would think that could work from a structural point of view, but they would have to seal it somehow to prevent more microplastics from being created. Plastics aren’t often used as a building material because of toxic off-gassing, but of course this would be outside which would mitigate the issue.
Asphalt is one of the most recyclable materials in existence, when they tear up an asphalt road they just melt it down and pour it back on. If there was plastic involved it would probably interrupt this process.
But I’m not expert. Maybe it would work.
ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Costco changed the bag to plastic!!51·8 days agoUh huh. I have also watched videos and read articles supporting what I just said. Scotch tape is a great example because it’s so brittle… almost useless for any application other than temporarily taping paper to something. It shows how weak plastic gets when it’s recycled.
ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Costco changed the bag to plastic!!9·8 days agoInto what? Scotch tape? 2 by 4’s for decking material? One can only make so much of those things before the low demand is met.
Like I said, almost none of it gets recycled because the resulting products are too weak. Not only that, but plastic “recycling” is one of the primary ways that micro plastics get into our bodies.

ObtuseDoorFrame@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Costco changed the bag to plastic!!212·8 days agoNo. This is a myth perpetuated by huge companies who create a lot of single use plastic.
There isn’t a type of plastic in existence that can be recycled without degrading in quality. A plastic bottle cannot be used to create a new bottle. This is why less than 5% of plastic waste is actually recycled.

Sometimes telling someone to “calm down” is actually appropriate, but mostly it’s straight up gaslighting. If someone reacts negatively to hearing that, they very likely have a good reason. This meme is misogynistic .
