One metro line in my city has signs like these:

And I don’t understand why anyone should have a seat if they’re being attacked by a baby. They need to get away from that monster ASAP.

    I hate that they use a cane/crutch…

Lots of people look perfectly healthy but can’t handle standing still for long.

i believe it’s literally things you can look for to help you know if you should give up your seat. If someone looks perfectly healthy there isn’t much reason to give up your seat for them is there? A sign with a completely normal looking person wouldn’t help much you would be back at square one.

I mean it’s much larger problem.

        But the sign isn’t helping.

Like, I have disabled plates but rarely use them, and always take a normal spot first. I’ve had multiple people yell at me for parking in a normal spot when I dont look disabled and have disabled plates. And that I “stole” a good spot and shouldn’t have plates. While demanding I give them the unrestricted spot and take a reserved one.

All logic goes out the window when parking/seating becomes involved and it’s always the dumbest who open their mouths. Like, I’ve been yelled at even more when I do use reserved parking, there’s literally no option that might not result in an idiot starting a confrontation and every idiot has a gun these days.

Hence the need for better signage and taking the time to explain the issue when it comes up.

that sounds really frustrating. People are the worst! What kind of sign do you think would actually help in your situation?

The sign I use is taking the dang crutches with me, even if I mostly don’t need them. It sucks but people magically get the message that way.

I mean, we put a shit ton of effort into the radioactivity sign.

We don’t need to go that deep for a sign used by an ongoing country, but it’s something that warrants a couple studies to see what makes the most sense and then just rolling with that.

Like, it’s not starting from scratch, we’ve all seen those signs at a doctor’s office about pain level.

But something that communicates pain/limited mobility without a physical interpretation.

Like, “green means go” isn’t anything intrinstic, and any connection red has with “stop”, for some people they get “flee, fight, or fuck”.

So it’s not impossible to teach everyone the same abstract connection, just no short term fix.

Okay, then what pictogram do you use to show a person who looks perfectly healthy, does not have a cane or crutch, but also can’t stand for a long time?

Like just use your brain please, think just one step further before writing a comment. I swear the comments on lemmy are so brainless all the time. Nobody ever thinks for even just a second before writing their comment.

What’s an immediately identifiable way to convey that? I suppose the hidden disability sunflower, but that assumes you know what it means.

Edit: I just realized the cane could be referring to old people in general.
