      I’m pretty sure that was his body but he was sent back, so hes looking at the guy that just executed him

        That doesn’t explain much to be honest.

        Is the joke that he is being executed for time crimes and that is a line of other time versions of himself?

        What is the deal with the green shirt pointy hat buddy and why does it lead to being send back?

        I can only imagine heaven story arc is about christ in the bible. Yet closest relevant fitting character i can find is Santa Elf.

      I was confused as well, but looking at the comments I started looking at the site and it looks like that it is a running gag that happens on every January 1st and I think it started in 2006.

    I just went back in time to read all new years comics and TIL they’ve retconned the purple shirt eye stabber’s origin in 2019: https://explosm.net/comics/newyears-2019

    Also the chained up guys are all the killed of guys from that time, including tiny head 2008 guy and 3000 glasses guy.
